I created this iconic Star Wars weapon for a real time, fan art, game project. This first person weapon was created with only 40% high poly assets and 60% from a beveled edge architectural material within 3D Studio Max. Utilizing this Mental Ray material, I was able to bake out beveled edges into a normal map. Using this method allowed me to complete this piece in half the time without sacrificing quality.
